Effects of Varying Cross Girder Spacing in T-girder Bridge
This study focused on understanding how the number of cross girders (ranging from 0 to 10) affects the performance of a T-beam bridge. The bridge was modeled using FEM software Midas Civil software, and the results were checked with manual calculations to ensure accuracy. The figure below displays different FEM models with 2, 3, 5, and 9 cross girders.
The loads applied to the bridge followed the standards set by the Indian Road Congress (IRC). By analyzing important factors like shear force, maximum displacement, and bending moment as the number of cross girders changed, the study was able to draw that optimum number of cross girders that reduce BM and deflection in live load distribution for this particular bridge specification is 3.
